MEET THE FOUNDER
My name is Joe Tennison, but my friends just call me Joey.
I've spent my entire career building and remodeling custom homes. About 25 years ago, I started hand-drafting plans — primarily remodel sketches, though a handful of full-home builds have carried my hand-drawn designs all the way through permitting. In 1999, I opened a framing company, and over the next decade, I specialized in high-end homes, remodels, and waterfront properties for some of Seattle's most prominent families, working across Seattle, Medina, and Magnolia. Along the way, I had the opportunity to work alongside some of the city's largest builders and architects — an experience that's shaped how I approach every project since.
In 2010, I closed my framing company and stepped into work as a contractor, taking on remodels and full builds on my own. My framing background proved invaluable. It means real structural knowledge goes into every set of plans I draft, not just conceptual ideas. After building hundreds of homes, you start to see living space differently: the symmetry of it, the balance. That's the kind of understanding you can only earn by doing the work yourself, for years, with your own hands.
Building is my craft, but people are my reason.
I've learned to navigate tight timelines and tighter budgets, and to treat the inevitable hiccups along the way not as setbacks, but as opportunities. Because at the end of the day, the work only means something if the people I build it for feel like they were part of it every step of the way.
Outside of work, I'm the father of two and grandfather to six wonderful little ones. I find a lot of joy in woodworking — especially traditional Asian joinery — and in restoring old furniture with antique hand tools from around the world. You'll also find me hiking, mountain biking, painting with acrylics, or out on the river chasing salmon every year.
And every Thursday night for the past three years, you'll find me in downtown Seattle with my team, two vans packed with sandwiches, water, blankets, and clothes, looking for people experiencing homelessness — getting to know them, and doing what we can to support them. The friendships I've built with that volunteer community have become some of the closest in my life.
